Maarif-ul-Quran (En) · 2. Al-Baqara · Ayah 54
وَ اِذْ قَالَ مُوْسٰى لِقَوْمِهٖ یٰقَوْمِ اِنَّكُمْ ظَلَمْتُمْ اَنْفُسَكُمْ بِاتِّخَاذِكُمُ الْعِجْلَ فَتُوْبُوْۤا اِلٰى بَارِئِكُمْ فَاقْتُلُوْۤا اَنْفُسَكُمْ١ؕ ذٰلِكُمْ خَیْرٌ لَّكُمْ عِنْدَ بَارِئِكُمْ١ؕ فَتَابَ عَلَیْكُمْ١ؕ اِنَّهٗ هُوَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِیْمُ﴿54﴾
- وَاِذْقَالَاور جب کہا
- مُوْسَىٰموسیٰ
- لِقَوْمِهِاپنی قوم سے
- يَا قَوْمِاے قوم
- اِنَّكُمْبیشک تم
- ظَلَمْتُمْتم نے ظلم کیا
- اَنْفُسَكُمْاپنے اوپر
- بِاتِّخَاذِكُمُتم نے بنالیا
- الْعِجْلَبچھڑا
- فَتُوْبُوْاسو تم رجوع کرو
- اِلَىٰطرف
- بَارِئِكُمْتمہاراپیدا کرنے والا
- فَاقْتُلُوْاسو تم ہلاک کرو
- اَنْفُسَكُمْاپنی جانیں
- ذَٰلِكُمْیہ
- خَيْرٌبہتر ہے
- لَكُمْتمہارے لئے
- عِنْدَنزدیک
- بَارِئِكُمْتمہارا پیدا کرنے والا
- فَتَابَاس نے توبہ قبول کرلی
- عَلَيْكُمْتمہاری
- اِنَّهُ هُوَبیشک وہ
- التَّوَّابُتوبہ قبول کرنے والا
- الرَّحِیْمُرحم کرنے والا
Translation · Maarif-ul-Quran (En)
And when Musa said to his people: "My people, you have wronged yourselves by your taking the calf (as God). So, turn in repentance to your Creator and slay yourselves. That will be better for you in the sight of your Creator" Then, He accepted your repentance Indeed He is the Most-Relenting, the Very-Merciful.

This verse describes the special mode of offering their Taubah توبہ (repentance) which was prescribed for the Israelites in this situation, -- that is to say, those who had not indulged in the worship of the golden calf should execute those who had. Similarly, in the Islamic Shari'ah too, certain major sins necessarily entail capital punishment even when the sinner has offered this Taubah توبہ -- for example, life in return for a life in the case of intentional homicide, or death by stoning in the case of adultery established through proper evidence.
Then the Israelites acted upon this divine commandments, they became worthy of receiving the mercy and favour of Allah in the other world.
